A limousine lent to transport a team of sporting celebrities heading to a poker night in Geelong was stolen from outside a restaurant while they were eating – and then crashed.
The limo was carrying former 888Poker Ambassador Shane Warne, Australian poker legends Joe and Tony Hachem and AFL soccer star Brendan Fevola and his wife to a charity poker tournament in aid of the National Breast Cancer Foundation when it made a pit stop at the Fisherman’s Pier restaurant on Geelong’s waterfront outside of Melbourne.
THIS CCTV image shows the moments before a $200,000 limo was stolen.
Soon after reporting the theft, the owner posted a message on his Facebook page for anyone in the area to “keep an eye out” for the vehicle. The limo company sent another ride out to the group of local celebrities to be transported to the charity poker event.
Police manage to find the ‘battered and bruised’ vehicle at Heales Road in Lara, 18 km north-east of Geelong, around 9pm and are continuing to investigate, but Shane Warne – although he wasn’t insinuating that reality show star Brynne Edelsten was responsible for the limo’s disappearance – he was convinced that she’d informed the paparazzi that he was enjoying a nightcap at her place after the event. Clearly frustrated, Warne posted an Instagram status later that night suggesting that it wasn’t a “coincidence” that photographers were waiting outside Edelsten’s when the two arrived at 1 am.
Joe Hachem hasn’t commented publicly on the incident as of yet.
