This weekend, rumors emerged regarding the Daniel Negreanu who was about to resign from PokerStars. But this can be true? Or it’s just a misunderstanding? A moment of weakness? Or just an interesting move from Daniel Negreanu to put some pressure on Pokerstars? Or it’s just a fake?
How this rumors appeared? During the weekend, a well known poker player has tweeted a private conversation with Daniel Negreanu, via Skype. In this conversation, Daniel Negreanu has stated the desire to no longer “work” for PokerStars, if the company did not honor the original deal with the high-volume Supernova and Supernova Elite status players. The alleged screenshot of the conversation has been deleted from Twitter shortly after its publication and therefore we have no evidence now. But about this fact has also spoken Mason Malmuth, founder of TwoPlusTwo, during the now famous podcasts with Joe Ingram.
The December 11th Poker Life Podcast episode dove immediately into the topic of recent PokerStars VIP Club changes, which have been at the forefront of news topics in the poker community since they were announced in November. Starting at the 6-minute mark of the December 11th Poker Life Podcast, Malmuth brings up the featured Team PokerStars Pro: “Daniel Negreanu chatted nonsense as usual” said Mason Malmuth. “But he says something about the opportunity to resign”.
Malmuth believes that Daniel Negreanu intended to put some pressure on Amaya CEO, David Baazov, forcing PokerStars to think more on an issue that could also have ended differently if Pokerstars had more room for maneuver.
So the question is: will resign Daniel Negreanu from Pokerstars for real? Or just he posing in a “champion” of this situation?
